What is a Picosecond Laser?

PicoSecond – The latest in laser technology with wavelengths considerably shorter than the traditional nanosecond lasers now allows surgeons to treat multiple skin conditions with minimal discomfort and minimal downtime.

Unlike the nanosecond lasers, picosecond lasers cause little collateral heat which is why they are more comfortable and more accurate in the treatment of tattoos, skin pigmentation abnormalities like melanoma and dark circles, reduction of acne scars, pore size reduction, and skin tightening.

Picosecond lasers deliver energy in rapid ultra-short pulses (trillionths of a second). Instead of causing local heat, the picosecond laser shatters ink particles in tattoos and pigmentation into tiny particles. These are absorbed by the human body more efficiently than the larger particles left by traditional longer pulsed lasers. This allows safe and effective treatment of not only tattoos but also skin hyperpigmentation conditions like melasma and hyperpigmentation.

Very little collateral heat is generated which is why tattoo removal is more efficient, with less surrounding abnormalities of skin color.

By delivering the different wavelengths using a fractionated laser head, energy can be delivered into deeper tissues stimulating cell signaling which in turn causes a significant improvement in the appearance of skin.

Wavelengths: 532nm, 585nm, 650nm,1064nm

Picosecond Laser treatments are administered at multiple wavelengths allowing the treatment of all kinds of tattoo pigment colors.
